Ramsey, NJ – Led by strong goaltending and an equally strong trio of Senior captains, Don Bosco took to the road for the teams annual trip to Boston in early December. Senior Captain Tyler Sedlak (16 G, 14A) led the Bosco offensive, notching four goals, as the Ironmen defeated defending Massachusetts State Super 8 champion BC High (4-2) at Bentley University.

A quick turnaround the following afternoon, saw the Ironmen take on an an upstart Catholic Memorial (6-2) at Providence College.  Captains Liam McLinskey (13 G, 16A) and TJ Schweighardt (8 G, 10 A) led a relentless attack that saw the Ironmen bury 6 six goals to finish the road trip 2-0.

Jumping right back into Gordon conference play, Bosco took two games from rival Bergen Catholic to close out 2018.

The Ironmen continue to reap the rewards of strong goaltending from Senior Max Schwarz, who has been excellent for Don Bosco, going 11-1, with a 1.64 GAA and a 93.1% Save Percentage.  Since the calendar has turned to 2019, Max has continued his strong play.   Holding Princeton Day to one goal in a 4-1 win and posting a shutout on the road against #2 ranked Delbarton.

Following two more Gordon conference wins over Gloucester Catholic (7-4) and St Augustine’s (7-2), Bosco will begin Bergen County Tournament play against Ramsey on Friday night then take on #3 CBA Sunday, January 20 6:15 pm at home.

Contributions have come from everywhere for the Ironmen, as Sophomores Damien Carfagna (3 G, 10 A), Zach Hammond (5 G, 2 A) along with Juniors Hunter McGee (2 G, 7 A) and Will Fortescue (1 G, 7 A) have provided balance and depth.  While Seniors Michael Forgione (2 G, 7 A) and Mark Garfinkel (3 G, 3 A) have played crucial roles during the early part of the season.

The Ironmen opened the season in solid fashion with back to back wins over Gordon Conference rivals Delbarton and Gloucester Catholic.  Bosco jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period of the Delbarton game on goals by Senior Captain TJ Schweighardt and Senior Mark Garfinkel.  Delbarton put on some pressure in the second period, cutting the lead in half, but Schweighardt ripped a shot top shelf mid 3rd period to put the game away and a 3-1 victory.  Senior Max Schwarz was awesome in goal making 24 saves.  The following night,  Senior Co-Captain Tyler Sedlak popped home 2 goals while Co Captain Liam McLinskey added 2 assists in a 4-1 win over the GC Rams. Will Fortescue and Zack Hammond rounded out the scoring for the Ironman as Schwarz picked up his second win in back to back games.

CJ McGee Commits To Quinnipiac

Former Captain CJ McGee has committed to Quinnipiac University.  McGee graduated Don Bosco in 2017 and led the Ironmen to a four straight Bergen County Championships and a State Finals appearance.  “CJ is such a competitor” said Bosco Head Coach Greg Toskos.  “He was a 2 year captain for us and helped bring this program to become one of the state’s elite.  We are all very proud of CJ and his commitment.  Quinnipiac is getting a great kid and an excellent hockey player.”  McGee finished his Ironman career with 6 goals, 34 assists for 40 points and was a plus 58 in his four year varsity career.  CJ will join Ironmen John Campomenosi and Liam McLinskey as future Bobcats.

Bosco Hockey Announces 2018-19 Captains

Don Bosco Hockey is proud to announce Seniors Tyler Sedlak, Liam McLinskey and TJ Schweighardt will lead the Ironmen as Captains for the upcoming season.  All three are four year Varsity hockey players.  McLinskey and Sedlak will lead a prolific offense that returns a group that scored over 70 goals last year (team total was 154) while Schweighardt will lead a defense core that gave up only 40 goals in 30 games last season.

Head Coach Greg Toskos was excited to make the announcement and is looking forward to the upcoming season saying, “After losing a great senior class and finishing on a tough note, this group is ready to get right back at it.  Our senior class is a veteran group that brings a lot of experience to the table.”

The Ironmen, return a solid senior class led by Goalie Max Schwarz, Defensemen Mark Garfinkel adds experience to the blue line along with Schweighardt, and Forwards Michael Forgione and John Papandrea will join Sedlak, McLinskey, looking to make their third straight NJSIAA State Final appearance.

2018-19 Schedule Announced

Once again, the Ironmen will play one of the toughest schedules in NJ High School Hockey.  The season kicks off with a bang as Bosco hosts Gordon Conference Rival Delbarton in a rematch of last year’s state final on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The team will head to Boston for their annual trip to face Mass State Champion BC High and top 10 ranked Catholic Memorial later in December.  This year, Division 1 programs Bentley University and Providence College will host the games for the Ironmen.

December 21st at 7pm is the annual rival night vs. Bergen Catholic at the Ice Vault in Wayne.  January brings the county tournament and a chance for the Ironmen to continue their dominance against the north jersey teams.  As the schedule turns to February, Bosco will face Princeton Day at the Prudential Center before gearing up for the Gordon Cup playoffs and a run to a State Championship.
