Wayne – Don Bosco began with a strong effort to open up the 2016-17 campaign at home this past weekend against two Gordon Conference opponents. First up was a young Seton Hall Prep team. A slow start didn’t phase the Ironmen as they came alive in the second period. Senior Tyler Nielsen opened up the scoring, quickly followed by two more from Senior captain Ryan McLinskey and Junior Mickey Burns. After the dust settled, seven different Ironmen tallied a goal and senior goalie Alexei Masanko held SHP scoreless, notching his first shutout of the season, as Bosco rolled to an 8-0 win.
On the heels of Saturday’s season opening win, Bosco took to the ice Sunday against #4 ranked St Augustine’s Prep. After surrendering the first two goals to the Hermits, the Ironmen answered with three straight of their own. Senior captain Ryan McLinskey, got the scoring started with a power play goal and the top line of Junior’s Mickey Burns, Tsubasa Konishi and Sophomore Tyler Sedlak, led the comeback as they each tallied a goal in the final two periods to secure a 4-3 Ironmen victory. Senior goalie Alexei Masanko led the way with 28 saves as DBP improved to 2-0 on the season.
Next up Bosco travels to St. Peter’s Prep on Thursday for its first road game of the season.
